Von E. Hays
Von E. Hays is a Senior Vice President, General Counsel for Litigation and Corporate Operations at Comerica Incorporated. In that role, Von is responsible for overseeing all defensive litigation matters for Comerica and is Comerica’s “go to” attorney for Human Resource.
Prior to joining Comerica in 2007, Von was a partner at the firm of K&L Gates where he represented management in all aspects of labor and employment law, including litigation, agency representation, union avoidance, extensive client counseling on day-to-day employment management and governmental compliance issues. Von’s experience while in private practice involved trial work, arbitrations, government investigations, wage & hour and OFCCP auditing and client counseling on employment decisions, policies and issues. In 2005, Von was recognized as Texas Rising Star by Texas Monthly magazine.
Von is active in the community. Besides being on the Board and serving as past president for CFGC, Von has also been active in the legal community having authored several articles on employment law topics, including having served as a contributing editor on the Developing Labor Law (3d Edition and 2000 Supplement) and presented at many seminars on employment matters.
Von, a native Iowan, received his undergraduate degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, graduating magna cum laude in 1993 before attending law school at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Von graduated from Drake with high honors in 1996 graduating in the top ten percent of his class and serving as an Associate Editor on the Drake Law Review. Von also had the good fortune to meet his wife Kristin in law school. They live in Lewisville, Texas with their two kids and two dogs.
