When H.O.P.E. Leads to Healing

Picture

Esteban

After the first week of schools closing, Esteban began acting up at home and being aggressive towards his siblings. Laura (his mother) was laid off, and his father is a truck driver, so he is mostly away from home. He was becoming uncontrollable, and his mother did not know what else she could do. With two other children in the house, she was desperate for help, but "without insurance our options seemed limited," said Laura, "I'm so glad to have found Child & Family Guidance Center when we did. Dr. Young gave us the time and attention necessary to understand our situation and prescribe the appropriate medication. This and the skills training techniques are helping me get my son back."
“Without insurance, our options seemed limited. I'm so glad to have found Child & Family Guidance Center when we did...[they're] helping me get my son back”
- Laura
Esteban's psychological evaluation revealed he has bi-polar disorder, and his treatment plan, including:
  • necessary medication
  • skills training to help Esteban learn to better communicate his feelings and reduce outbursts
  • skills training for the family to help identify impending meltdowns and redirect negative behaviors
has helped to significantly decrease his mood swings and violence towards his siblings. In addition, Laura learned that her son needs structure, and the sudden shift in his daily routine really set him off. With the help of Dr. Young and the Child & Family team, Esteban is doing a little better each day.
