Clinical Internship Opportunities
CFGC seeks to recruit Social Work and Counseling interns each semester to provide clinical opportunities and learning experiences. Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of two semesters in order to be considered for this opportunity.

It is the commitment of this agency to provide quality, self-directed, recovery oriented care to children, adults, and families in need. Services include Intensive Case Management, Service coordination, Skills Training and Development, Community Support Services, Routine Case Management, Medication Training and Management, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, At Risk Prevention Services, and Psychiatric Care.
Offices are located in Dallas, Mesquite, Plano, Oak Cliff, Waxahachie, Kaufman, and Corsicana. Services are primarily community based and appointments are based on family’s need. CFGC staff provides services in the counties of Dallas, Kaufman, Ellis, Navarro, Hunt, Collin, and Rockwall.
Our staff members are part of a multi-disciplinary team, which includes psychiatrists, licensed social workers, licensed professional counselors, certified prevention specialists, qualified mental health professionals, social work and counseling interns, and consumer’s in recovery.

Internship Opportunities
Mental Health Program
Clinical opportunities for Graduate Advanced Direct Practice Students include developing an initial recovery plan with the consumer/family, implementation of the recovery plan through treatment such as: community based skills training and development, community support services, parent education and intervention, intensive case management, medication training, and basic counseling to children, adults, and families experiencing mental health concerns. Weekly supervision is provided. *Requires undergraduate degree in psychology, social work, or helping field.
Safety Net Program
Clinical opportunities for Undergraduate and Graduate Advanced Direct Practice Students include co-facilitating drug and alcohol prevention and behavioral health promotion groups utilizing an evidence-based curriculum with youth ages 11-18, grades 6-12. Students have the opportunity to provide brief, problem focused individual counseling with adolescents, identify problems and refer participants to appropriate resources, participate in community education events, and work in the school setting. Weekly supervision is provided.
Students may accompany Prevention Specialists to prevention groups and participate in community education events.
Student hours are mainly daytime hours with some evenings/weekends available based upon event schedules. The Safety Net Program is based in the Plano location; field work is completed in schools located in Collin, Denton and Dallas Counties.
* Undergraduate placement is available for this program.
Internship Assignment
Participating interns will be assigned to a CFGC clinical location and/or Safety Net school based on geographic considerations, supervision availability, and need.

All internships will require the following onboarding process:
Caseload Assignment
Outlined below determines each interns minimum required caseload based on which program is selected. Outside of the direct and indirect (administrative) hours, CFGC has calculated the additional supervision hour per week as well as travel time.

Stipend Opportunities
A monthly stipend benefit of up to $500.00 will be provided based on individual intern productivity and/or hours worked. For additional information, refer to the Stipend Acknowledgement form.

- Complete an agency interview, background check, drug screening and internship/practicum paperwork for Human Resource purposes.
- Complete the eighty-four (84) hour New Intern Orientation within four (4) weeks of start date and prior to providing services to CFGC. Hours will be honored for all required trainings.. This includes the eight hours of formal training and ten (10) hours of shadowing. A portion of your overall grade for the first semester is dependent on completing these trainings within the timeframe provided.
- One week of orientation is face to face in the Child and Family Guidance Center Harry Hines clinic.
Caseload Assignment

Mental Health Program (Full-time):
- 6 Direct clinical hours minimum per week
- 1 hour supervision per week provided during regular business hours
- 16 school time hours minimum per week (generally 8 AM to 4 PM)
- Summer hours available are greatly reduced and filled with Mental Health hours. This will be discussed prior to the summer semester.
- 1 hour supervision per week
- 3 Direct clinical hours minimum per week
- 8 hours Safety Net time (all school hours, one specified day of the week)
- 1 hour supervision per week
