Dr. Asif Rashid is a double board certified psychiatrist from American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Currently an attending psychiatrist, working at Child & Family Guidance Center, he is licensed to practice medicine in New York and Texas and has admitting privileges at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York. Dr. Rashid believes in the evidence based practice of medicine that includes multi-faceted approach to treatment, including biological (medications, light therapy, ECT), psychological (various forms of individual psychotherapy-CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, interpersonal, problem solving as well as groups and family therapies), social (work, school, community based interventions), spiritual etc. His mission is to fight mental illness as an expert, to improve life standards of clients and to get help to people in need, especially, ones who have a hard time accessing the services directly due to accessibility and other reasons.
He has been working in the field of psychiatry since 2003 and has extensive experience working with both Adults and Children. Although his main area of work has been outpatient clinical work, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management and family therapy, he has a vast experience in other behavioral health settings including covering inpatient units, partial hospital programs, intensive outpatient programs, consultation-liaison psychiatry and emergency psychiatry.
Dr. Rashid was born in Karachi, Pakistan, raised in Saudi Arabia. After completing high school and pre-med courses, he was accepted to Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan for medical education and received his M.B.B.S. degree in 1997. After moving to U.S.A., he passed his USMLE exams and then received degree conferral to M.D. from University of New York.
Trained in New York Medical College Program, he completed his residency from Saint Vincent Medical Center ( now known as Richmond University Medical Center ) in Staten Island, NY in June, 2006. He, then, completed sub-speciality training fellowship in Child and Adolescent psychiatry from Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY in June 2008.
Dr. Rashid has worked in Community psychiatry clinic of Westchester Jewish Community Center in Hartsdale, NY for more than 6 years as an outpatient psychiatrist. He has also been privileged to work as a part time attending psychiatrist at Westchester Medical Center and Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center, both, located in Westchester county, NY.
Dr. Rashid has been a part of a private practice group in North Salem, NY from 2009 to 2015. He has gained international psychiatry practice experience while working at KFSH in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 2 years, prior to returning back to USA in 2017. During this time, he has been involved in teaching residents and medical students as well as research, that has been published in a peer review journal. Dr. Rashid holds the Adjunct Assistant Professor position at the faculty of Al-Faisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and is currently pending Voluntary faculty privileges at UT South Western, in Dallas, Texas for Adjunct Assistant Professor position.
